I was driving down to the beach this morning for a group run when a simple, yet powerful, message drilled into my thoughts. My intention of this story is to leave you with some inspiration, so you can live in the Now. Some times when things get tough, we get caught up in how great the past was and we take our focus off the now and what’s right in front of us.
So, I was looking through the windshield as I was approaching the beach this morning and I couldn’t see more than 20 feet in front of me. It was so foggy, hazy, and unclear. Similar to a dream you’re trying to remember the next day. You can kind of imagine it and see it, yet its more distant and fuzzy than it is clear.
Then I looked into the rear view mirror. I could see everything because there wasn’t any fog and I literally just came down that road. Similar to the life experiences: we went through them already and know exactly what happened.
At that moment, the thought of focusing on the road in front of me sent ideas and metaphors bouncing around in my head.
What I ended up with was this:
Theres a reason the windshield is so much bigger than the rear view. It’s because what’s behind us isn’t nearly as important as whats whats right in front of us, and in the future.
Sure, the past might have seemed so clear or bright, and the future might be hazy or difficult to see at times…so what do you do when you experience the unfamiliar?
I accept the challenge and focus on what’s right in front of me. Not what’s 5,10,20 miles ahead. It’s a powerful thing to have a vision and know where you’re headed. Remember to focus on what’s right in front of you so you can fully experience it, respond to it, and live it worthwhile.
Everything was once new, unfamiliar, or difficult to see what was behind it. And if you’re still here, reading this, you got through it alive! You persisted and pushed through the fog! Did you here me, you’re still alive! You left the comfortable (sunny) place to explore something new.
You know what that exploration gives us? Perspective, which leads to experience, which leads to wisdom. Now, with that wisdom we have opportunities to bless the lives of others, to grow ourselves into something greater, to become more valuable to friends, family, and the marketplace.
You see, when we LIVE through the windshield and understand that whats in front of us is most important, our quality off life expands and helps us live more fulfilled, passionate lives.
So many thoughts crossed my mind this morning, and I wanted to share just a couple with you. I hope my experience has left you with some inspiration and positive affect.
If so, there is no greater gift then to pass it on.
My passion is bringing health and freedom into peoples lives. Who do you know that I can bless?
